HOT Biz Tips From Marilyn Monroe

I know…  This may seem like a strange statement.  However…  This week I did a free call called Pop Your Personal Brand ~ Go From Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe.

And in the preparation of that call…  I realized there are some incredible business lessons that Marilyn can teach us!

As Tony Robbins says, “Success leaves clues”…  So let us learn from Marilyn.

1) Go Sexy and Hot

Marilyn was not afraid of her sensuality, and it brought her great career success.

As women…  We have often been conditioned to hide our sensuality in business. However, I beg to differ.  Our sexuality is connected to our ‘generative organs’, and our generative organs literally GENERATE.  We need this in business and in making money!  I believe our sensuality is a powerful potency that ideally, can be channeled to create great work.

Now, I am not talking about the gratuitous use of sexuality…   A month ago, I started a juicy dialog on facebook asking the question if a woman could be Hot AND Professional. It was quite a lively debate with over 60 comments!  Many women answered a resounding YES!  And many others were worried it might set back women’s rights a 100 years or so.  :)

For me…  I see pure sensuality as quite an effective power.  I spend a good deal of time using simple movements to help my clients get into their bodies before we shoot…  Because I always say... “Nothing is more powerful than a woman in her pleasure.” And it’s incredible what happens to the effectiveness of a photograph when a woman is out of her head and into her hips! And this is one of the secrets behind the success of HeartShots.

2) Go High-End

Marilyn Monroe is synonymous with diamonds, furs, and wealth…  And this was good for her business.

Now, as a disclaimer…  This is not a glorification of materialism.  Instead, this is about frequency. My background in the healing arts makes me intuitively sensitive to energy… And gems, lovely clothes, and luxurious homes happen to have a higher frequency!

Think about it…  When you wear a lovely dress that makes you feel good…  Don’t you feel like a million bucks? And don’t you think this might draw in high-end clients?  Yes…  Money will literally be attracted to you because you are vibrating at a higher frequency.

I always invite my clients to wear dressier clothes than normal, and there is a reason… It’s so that they step can into the high-end version of themselves, and therefore draw in high-end clients! You can hear more about this on my next free call ~ High-End Photos = High-End Clients

3) Have a Team ~ Don’t Do it Alone

Norma Jean could not have become Marilyn Monroe on her own.  She needed a team of support around her to become the legend she did.

Think of any celebrity, whether it’s Oprah, Angelina Jolie, or Marilyn Monroe.  They all have a support team...  Which may include a nutritionist, a hair dresser, an agent, an assistant, a trainer, a stylist, and the list goes on and on!

It’s official.  True success is created with a success team.

So as women entrepreneurs, we need to take note.

If we are here to create success, then we cannot think we can do it alone. We must start gathering our own support team around us…  And this is not an either/or situation.  It’s not about hiring a business coach OR creating a powerful web presence.  Today’s world is about BOTH/AND.  So stretch, take the leap, and find ‘your’ team!  Your business will thank you.  :)

And I promise, you’ll get used to it…  My clients adore having their own success team on their shoot with a photographer/coach, stylist, and hair & makeup… They really do feel like a celebrity for the day!

4) Love the Attention…  And Use It.

Marilyn Monroe was not afraid of attention, and she used it to great success.

Many women entrepreneurs have visibility issues, and I believe this is hurting their businesses.  After all…  If you are hiding, how can money find you?

I understand, I know visibility issues run deep…   I have had my own which I shared in this video.

However… We can all feel it’s time to get over our visibility issues. I am hearing this from women everywhere, and it’s been so fun to feel the buzz building around “Flip Your Switch”!  I believe that everyone has Star Power within them…  And that it only takes practice and support to take the baby steps to let it out and SHINE. I talk my clients through this process all the time.

Even though we sadly know things did not work out for Marilyn in the end…  I feel that there is a new story brewing today…  Many of us know we are here to create great change in the world…  And if that’s the case.  Then we need Turn On Our Star Power and USE IT FOR GOOD.   And then be ready to be on the front page of EVERYTHING.

Like Britney Spears or not, she is a powerful business woman.

Ten years ago, I was on a photo shoot with her, and I learned a lesson so profound that I would love to share it with you here.

It’s something that has helped me get to where I am now…  And is also something I help my clients with too!

And I believe it has very practical applications to our businesses.  Watch to learn all about it…  And you can see some wild photos of us side-by-side below.

Now, granted…  I did choose the photos with the biggest disparity.  But so you can get an idea of what it looks like when a woman is turned ON…  And what it looks like when one is not.  :)  I mean…  Look at the body language.  I often tell my clients to get into their ‘hips’, to get down into their bodies.  Look at how EMBODIED Britney is!  I believe there is a correlation here to her amount of success as well.  Fascinating!

Needless to say…  Thank goodness, I have learned a lot about embodiment on film since then.  :)

Yesterday I donated $3000 to charity.

I’ve never been able to donate like that before!   And yesterday, I was able to make a huge difference for women and girls around the world. It was an incredible feeling… I was able to breathe money in… And then breathe money out to be circulated and shared around the globe. And I had a moment of… Ah yes, THIS is why I do this. Bless all the hard work… It has been worth it to be able to give back. And now for the moment, all is right in the world. And so it is.

So let me explain how I got there.

In December, I launched a campaign to finish out my STAR in Your Own Stock Photos package at the end of the year… It had been a successful one day program over the last 8 months combining transformation work with photography to help women entrepreneurs capture the heart of their brand, and it had even taken me on a jam-packed trip to the UK! However, I was now feeling guided to bring it to a close. But before I did… I wanted to make sure that people who had been thinking about participating as a STAR, would seize their opportunity to do so now.

And so this meant it was time to gear up a marketing campaign. Often this means a colossal amount of hard work, and I can’t say they are my favorite things in the world. So I am always looking for how I can make them more fun and meaningful. And then the Divine Download came in: create a special holiday edition called Exponential Shine.

Now the back story is that I love absolutely anything exponential. Somewhere within my healing artist creative bones is, oddly, a place that REALLY likes things to be extra efficient. So if one thing is going to happen… Why not make it more interesting with MANY things happening simultaneously, and exponentially? You just mention the word quantum, and I’m there.

And so this was what Exponential Shine was all about. I have always said that when one woman allows herself to step forward and SHINE… She lifts up and inspires every women to do the same. And if I know one thing… It’s how to help women get over their visibility issues and SHINE. So this very package was helping one woman shine, and get 100′s of radiant photographs for their business… Then I figured… Why not put my theory to the test, and see if her shine could lift up ALL women?

And so I created a special package donating 10% of the total price to charities helping other women to shine around the world.

It felt amazing to link the package directly with a charity… I had been haphazardly finding my own relationship with tithing in the past. But this felt far more interesting, and concretized.

And so the marketing campaign began.

Now… It was probably the most I have ever marketed any of my programs. I was quite prolific on fb and even sent out one newsletter a day for a solid week. It wasn’t comfortable by any means… In fact, I often cringed when I pressed post or send. But I knew there was something larger at play here than my uncomfortability with being salesy, and so I pushed on.

Well, when all was said and done… I sold 15 packages at $2000 each!!! It was a wild success beyond anything I had ever dreamed.

However… I won’t say it was easy. It had been a tremendous amount of work, and there were more than a few stress-induced meltdowns. I will also say that there were some who reflected back to me their displeasure with how much I had been ‘pitching’ my program.

HOWEVER. When I sat down yesterday to finally pay out the $3000 in total… It all melted away. I realized how amazing the entire experience had been, and that I had discovered a whole new business model for myself.  My goal is to never again create a package that is not connected with a charity that represents and matches it’s purpose.

There is something very powerful to link your business to something larger… It somehow takes on a whole different demeanor… And any of the business aspects that may have seemed a tad unsavory on their own… Now take on a lovely shimmering glow instead.

And so I invite anyone interested to try this on for size… What would it be like to link YOUR programs directly with charities? I know many of you are already making amazing donations… However, there was something so very satisfying about connecting the actual program itself with an automatic 10% donation. It really felt like it was a co-creation between my clients and myself, and win-win-win all over the place.

I have always dreamt of a world where we are woven together as one. And this feels like a lovely opportunity to put it into action.  From business owners to clients to those in need… Let us weave this global community into the one quilt of “we are in this together”.

Now that’s the kind of exponential I like.
